spoofing caller id

Saw this over on Neil Gaiman's blog:

I had no idea there were services that offered this functionality. Will be interesting to see if the phone companies manage to shut them down.

Sunny and 52 degrees in New York City. Went out on the balcony without a coat. Awesome.

I can't say I've got a lot of confidence in the caller ID system. Where I work, we use VoIP Phones and the caller ID never works. Furthermore, I'll get caller ID on my cell phone that is the extension number of the person dialing. I don't know enough about caller ID to know exactly who is at fault, but there appears to be little to no validation on both outgoing or incoming calls.
