obama and transparent government
Somebody just told me about this site (http://www.usaspending.gov/), created by the Federal Funding Accountability and Transparency Act of 2006 (Transparency Act), which was co-sponsored by Senators Coburn and Obama. Making this information (contracts, grants, earmarks, loans) easily searchable and understandable is a really good thing and will hopefully help curb special-interest abuses and "pork". There are many interesting things about this act: that it passed despite strong opposition, that it was sponsored by a Republican and a Democrat, and that it gives a glimpse into the kind of transparent government advocated by Obama in his campaign platform. I've refrained from posting pro-Obama entries up to this point, but I thought this was too good to pass up, since it's such a concrete example of good work he's done as a Senator.
