ny comic con 2007

I attended the NY Comic Con on Friday and Saturday this weekend. Had a good time despite the crowds.

Highlights:

Battlestar Galactica panel hosted by Kevin Smith, with James Callis (Gaius Baltar) and Tricia Helfer (Number Six). Good, good stuff. Hilarious moment when James was talking about how great the effects were, and said he really got it when he saw the scene in the mini-series where Laura is at the doctor's office and the ships are flying overhead. He said, "I'd never seen space ships in daylight before on TV," and there was an instant chorus of "Firefly!" from a section of the audience. Kevin Smith: "You don't f*** with a Browncoat." James admitted that he had mostly missed Firefly, and Tricia threw in that she once dated Nathan Fillion (Capt. Mal).

I picked up a "Masi Oka is my hero" t-shirt, because how could I pass it up for only $10? Also took pictures of the Masi merch to share with him. No surprise, the guy in the booth said the Masi shirt had sold over 100, and the three others about 20 each. Also in the Heroes category, I got an autograph from Hayden Panettiere, who was incredibly sweet.

Saw some interesting panels and Q&As with creators, including J. Michael Straczynski, Garth Ennis, Joe Quesada, Peter David, Stephen King, Jim Lee, Steve Niles, and pretty much the entire DC lineup. Two creators in different sessions recommended the book World War Z, so I put in an Amazon order for it.

Finds: autographed Dazzler #1, autographed Jae Lee Inhumans #1, and some other cool indie stuff, including the visually compelling horror comic Brielle by Loaded Barrel Studios.

Oh, and I got Denny O'Neill's autograph. Dude created the Green Lantern. That was exciting.

Okay, now geek out with some of the photos I took (click on the photo to see the full album on picasaweb):
